TASK

Although predominantly specified for the commercial sector, Solinear’s products and services are sometimes required for domestic builds. In this instance Solinear was specified to design, manufacture, supply and install a Medera timber solar shading system adjacent to large glazed expanses for a domestic new-build family home in Hampshire.

ACTION

Working in collaboration with Adams + Collingwood Architects and Hemdean Builders, Solinear designed, manufactured, supplied and installed a bespoke Medera western red cedar shading system to the modern family property. The majority of the solar shading affixed to the south facing façade, which featured extensive areas of glazing, as well as west and east elevations of the property. Initially all the panels were to be installed as static features, however, due to a means of escape requirement through a number of windows, it was decided to make all but one of the louvres into sliding panels. Solinear adapted the designs and manufactured accordingly with a smooth-running aluminium track and four-wheeled ball bearing rollers.

RESULT

The attraction and popularity of western red cedar can be attribute to its attractive soft red-brown colour and subsequent warm appearance as well as its pleasantly aromatic scent in addition to its resistance to decay and insects, so, whilst being functional it also provides a desirable, striking permanent feature façade. Solinear’s Medera western red cedar solar shading system is highly sought after and was the perfect choice for this project.

Solinear successfully designed, manufactured, supplied and installed the stunning Medera western red cedar solar shading system to the façade of Darwin House, allowing in light but shading and protecting the occupants from the full glare of the sun whilst also complementing the modern, stylish, clean lines of this outstanding, contemporary new-build.

Solinear achieved beautiful results as seen in these photos taken by renowned architectural photographer, Jim Stephenson and the feature in this month’s (July 2019) edition of Grand Designs magazine!
