Introduction
Uxbridge Business Park has been designed and built with the emphasis on a work environment with a difference. To quote the Uxbridge Buisness Park website ‘At Uxbridge Business Park everything works together.
New, premium office space, exceptional connectivity, town centre amenities and a tranquil parkland setting offer the complete work environment. In January 2019 construction commenced on the delivery of two sports pitches, park land meeting pods, riverside picnic area, a rounders pitch and even a Helipad.
Work also then began on The Clubhouse, a café set within the business park offering flexible studio space, a conference room, office space and outdoor as well as indoor seating and picnic benches.
Task
Solinear was elated to be awarded this highly prestigious contract to design, manufacture, supply and install a large expanse of bespoke chestnut Medera brise soleil system enveloping the magnificent glazed curves of The Clubhouse. As the building height also rises and ultimately peaks on the south elevation, the fins needed to be designed and manufactured to allow for the differentiation in height.
Action
Solinear’s designers proceeded to design the timber vertical fin system with the usual meticulous precision and attention to detail expected of them. Once designs were completed and agreed, Solinear progressed to the manufacture of chestnut brise soleil fins of varying lengths ranging from 3.8m- 5.1m which were then transported to Uxbridge and installed contiguous to the large area of glass façade.
The north elevation with 78 fins reaching 3.8m high, following the curve of the round corner to the east elevation with 17 fins at between 4.0m-4.35m in height. The east elevation following the curve of the round corner to the south elevation with 32 fins between 4.8m-5.1m high.
From the south elevation the system follows the curve of the rounded corner to the west elevation with 27 fins between 4.0m-4.5m high. Click here to view early progress in the construction of The Clubhouse at Uxbridge Business Park
Result
The Clubhouse and other facilities were completed and opened in August 2019.
Solinear’s 154 natural honey finish, chestnut fins beautifully wrap around the sumptuous curves of the café, complementing its light, contemporary façade. As the building is enveloped in glass, it required shading to allow enough light and heat to enter without causing discomfort to its occupants. The fins were spaced apart and positioned so as to not compromise the outlook from The Clubhouse overlooking the lush greenery, picnic area and table tennis facilities. To quote dn-a, the architects responsible for the design of The Clubhouse at Uxbridge Business Park, ‘it looks simply stunning.’ and is a ‘buzzy new addition to Uxbridge Business Park that has transformed the park into a forward thinking, wellbeing focused, biodiverse, inclusive community, that will continue to attract employee focused occupiers, and cater for the diverse businesses that already enjoy the tranquil grounds and dynamic workspace.’
The Solinear team agrees and we are extremely proud of this project, showcasing how brise soleil is not only functional but beautiful. During the day the fins offer protection but at night, with some strategically place uplighters, they become a spectacular architectural feature.
