Jarvis Build

Introduction

The intention of the Watford Borough Council, as landowners, and Kier Property Investments Ltd partnership has been to transform 70+ acres of disused and derelict land around the River Colne, south of Watford General Hospital and Watford Football Club. The long-term regeneration’s aim is to turn the land in to an attractive, vibrant and high-quality mixed-use scheme that will generate a new neighbourhood and community for Watford. The two main residential phases at Willow Lane and Riverside on the larger scale Watford Health Campus provide 95 high standard residential dwellings, in three blocks (A,B and C) extending to between 5 and 6 storeys, with associated landscaping, amenity space, access and parking.

Task

Solinear’s responsibility was to design, manufacture, supply and install a bespoke brise soleil system on the south west elevation and north east elevation, providing solar protection to adjacent glazed areas of the residential blocks, of the Watford Health Campus at Riverwell/Willow Lane.

Action

Solinear designed, manufactured, supplied and installed Solex Halo 150 cassette solar shading systems above sections of glazing on the exposed south west and north east elevations of the blocks. The system comprises of extruded aluminium external horizontal solar shading blades – 6 x off elliptical profiles set at 45 degrees and pitched at nominal 150mm horizontal centres then fixed between our Solex profiled aluminium side plates to form each Halo horizontal cassette panel.

Result

Solinear, working alongside Jarvis Contracting and Lewis & Hickey architects, was honoured to be involved in the project – the largest regeneration project in Watford. Our sleek Halo system complements the simple, modern façade of the building whilst maintaining a comfortable environment for the residents of the building. With construction well underway in 2017, Tim Hall, managing director of Lewis and Hickey London, said that they were “…progressing the phases rapidly with our client and project teams who are a joy to work with.” We, at Solinear, concur – it was a pleasure to work alongside all involved and we are delighted with the results of our diligent work.
