Choosing the correct solar shading and louvre for your project

Architects will know that it is important to choose the correct solar shading system and architectural louvres for a project. Choosing the right solar shading will emphasise natural daylight while controlling solar glare and direct solar heat gain. In addition, an architectural louvre will provide air and rain defence performance to help combat water damage and corrosion from acid rain whilst giving adequate airflow for ventilation purposes along with good visual screening properties to hide ugly roof plant. We offer a range of beautifully designed, energy saving products to fit every possible project.

One of our most popular and versatile ranges is our Solex external solar shading system. It is available in a range of materials, including timber, galvanised steel, aluminium and stainless and can be fitted horizontally, as a canopy or vertically, which means that you can customize to suit your project, no matter how big or small. Solex is one of our most cost effective systems but still offers excellent protection from direct solar heat gain whilst allowing the maximum amount of natural daylight into the building.

It may also be important to combine solar shading with the appropriate building louvre. A well-made aluminium or timber louvre can add a stunning feature to your project while offering maximum protection from the elements and improving the building’s visual appearance and energy efficiency rating. Our Medera range offers timber louvres in several different types of wood to give your project a pleasing aesthetic. These louvres are made from rectangular planks which can be profiled to any geometric shape and designed to fit any project – the only limit is your imagination!

If you want the look of timber louvres but prefer your project to be as eco-friendly as possible, opt for the Medera Resina range. These louvres have all the features of the Medera range and indeed look identical to hardwood but are made of an advanced waterproof composite material that is fully sustainable. The material is made from mineral oil, rice husks and salt and is extremely hard wearing, while requiring minimal care.

If you have something more specific in mind, our fantastic design team can suggest a bespoke option. We offer bespoke steel fabrications, security mesh and gratings systems which work in tandem with our existing louvre and solar shading ranges. Our team of experienced designers and structural engineers are also happy to design and manufacture one-off pieces of metal work. We pride ourselves on offering bespoke solutions tailored to the customer, so please get in touch with your requirements and we will endeavour to fulfil them.
