If you have already subscribed to Solinear’s newsletters then you’ll know all about our fabulous project administrator, Claudia, and that she doesn’t drink hot beverages and, after six months at Solinear, still clinging on to the belief that if you don’t partake in hot drinks then you shouldn’t have to make them. It’s a controversial stance and we’re sure this will divide opinion in to the ‘everyone-should-make-drinks-regardless’ camp and the ‘why-should-anyone-make-tea-and-coffee-if-they-don’t-drink-it-themselves?’ camp.
Today started off like any other day with the regular tea and coffee drinkers making drinks for the office but at 11.22am Claudia said something that stunned us all – “I’ll make drinks, if you want?” followed by the verbal small print “…but don’t blame me if they taste horrible.” We took her up on her offer and braced ourselves…!
First obstacle: Remembering everyone’s requirements. Claudia wrote a list; sugar, oat milk, colour preferences etc.
Second obstacle: Opening the kettle. Claudia has beautiful nails, but they are not meant for demanding practicalities like opening things!
Third obstacle: Tom of ‘What did Tom do?’ fame (again, if you subscribe to our newsletter, you’ll know all about Tom) added another complication; Filter coffee. At the mention of the coffee machine, Claudia became panic stricken, so, Tom filled the coffee jug with just enough for two cups, so all Claudia had to do was pour it out and add milk.
Out came a sheepish Claudia looking very apologetic with cups in hand.
Her tea, however, was met with approval, despite her reservations, so the coffee drinkers were optimistic. The coffee drinkers like a strong drink, though, this was super-strength. It transpired that Claudia had spooned instant coffee into the cups and then filled them up with the jug of filter coffee! Not only leaving Tom without his beloved cup of filter but giving those who requested coffee, a cup of pure adrenaline!
Claudia’s main concern though was not the coffee drinkers’ accelerated heart rates but whether her freshly polished nails looked good in the photos!
Don’t worry, Claudia may not have grasped the intricacies of making hot drinks, but she is great at her job! Those who have been working with her will know what a consummate professional she is but we advise that if anyone visiting the Solinear team would like a hot, drink don’t ask Claudia!
Anyone else wondering what you dunk your biscuits in though if you don’t drink hot beverages?
