Laura joins the Solinear team
Meet Laura – she has joined the Solinear team as a Procurement Co-ordinator and is proving to be an enormous help in the smooth running of the day-to-day business.
Laura has come to us from the more temperate climes of Australia where she has very much enjoyed working in the hospitality sector for corporate hotels in Sydney as well as 5-star resorts in tropical Queensland.
As Solinear specialises in solar shading, and therefore takes a keen interest in the weather, we couldn’t resist a sun hour comparison; The average annual amount of sun hours in York is 1,200 hours whereas the average annual amount of sun hours in Queensland is 2,700 hours thus prompting the question from the sun worshippers in the office – ‘why, Laura, why?!’
Australia’s loss is most definitely our gain as Laura mentions that she is a keen baker and will be making sweet treats for her colleagues! When she isn’t busy working…or baking, Laura enjoys travelling the world and soaking up culture and history as well as wild camping accompanied by a roaring campfire and, although, she doesn’t have pets of her own, she loves fussing her trio of “four legged nephews”.
As we increasingly discover more about Laura, she has, in turn, learnt more about us, in particular the idiosyncrasies of our patois, declaring that she struggles to “understand the many ‘English’ dialects… and accents are very strong for such a small island”. Indeed, Laura, the country is a veritable smorgasbord of accents even within just a 50-mile radius of York.
First lesson for Laura; If anyone says, “Off t’shop, would you like owt?” that translates into “I’m going to the shop, would you like anything?”.
Laura is a very welcome addition to the Solinear team, and we can’t wait to try out her bakes!
