Solinear Update June 2022

Solinear is experiencing what could possibly be its busiest year so far. Quality products and excellent service have secured Solinear’s reputation as a leader in the field of brise soleil and architectural louvres but there are other factors that could explain why this year has been particularly busy…

How is brise soleil helping people to save money?

One of the reasons that brise soleil and architectural louvres are rapidly rising in popularity could be due to the energy crisis and the subsequent sharp increase in energy bills.
Energy prices have increased dramatically over the past few months and continue to rise. The latest forecast by energy bosses is that energy bills are expected to keep rising at least until 2023, with another price hike predicted in October and further price rises over winter. With that in mind, people may be turning to brise soleil as a long-term and sustainable solution to reduce energy costs.

Common reasons for choosing brise soleil

Amongst other reasons for choosing brise soleil, one of the most common is, quite simply, comfort and brise soleil has played an important role in providing it.
As brise soleil improves the quality and appearance of natural light during the day it also maintains a comfortable temperature inside a building for the occupants. This is especially important when the sun is at its peak in the summer months with heat and glare potentially causing stress and irritability
Comfort is vital for all aspects of life and it’s a quality that is expected from the buildings we occupy. Over the past couple of years, many people have spent more and more time inside and perhaps realised the quality of their indoor environment could be improved, hence the demand for solar shading.
Whatever the reason, there is no doubt that Solinear’s popularity continues, and the team is happy to be busy.

Another award-winning project for Solinear

image010.1
As well as being award-winners in our own right – winning a BUILD Magazine Construction & Engineering Award last year – Solinear has been specified for some of the UK’s top award winning projects. The The Ada Belfield Centre and Belper Library in Derbyshire which was awarded the Best Use of Heritage in Placemaking’ at the National Planning Awards in 2021 has also been awarded the RIBA East Midlands Award 2022 – another addition to our growing list of accolade winners.

The facility provides dementia friendly residential bedrooms, with associated ancillary spaces, lounge/dining areas and activity spaces alongside communal facilities including a café/restaurant and public library service.

The site itself is situated in Belper town centre within a UNESCO World Heritage site, and the development encompasses working with an existing building; whereby historically significant facades have been retained, refurbished and incorporated into the scheme, reusing parts of the old Thornton’s factory, reducing the carbon footprint of the build as well as preserving its past.

Solinear designed, manufactured and installed Mallasol decorative mesh panels with custom patterned perforations – reflecting the textile history of the site and the jacquard loom punch card – to windows and doors as well as parapet flashings and cladding to the main entrance. All panels were finished in a beautiful, warm bronze harmonising with the warm tones of the historic facades.

An award-winning project the Solinear team is extremely proud to have been involved with.
