We’ve moved!
Anyone who has moved to a new house will appreciate just how traumatic it can be so moving to a new workplace can be just as stressful when you consider that you spend at least eight hours a day, five days a week at work and you discover you’ve accumulated all manner of random items in drawers and cupboards…and then you find more drawers and cupboards you forgot you had! You come to that awful realisation that you’re not just a hoarder at home…you’re a work hoarder too!
Did we really need three kettles?
Solinear’s new unit may only be just around the corner but that didn’t diminish the fact that there was still plenty to box up and move and, as always, you completely underestimate just how much stuff you have accumulated throughout the years. It transpired that the Solinear office alone had three kettles squirrelled away! If there’s ever a kettle shortage, then Solinear is unquestionably prepared.
What’s that lead for?
The unplugging and dismantling of computers caused some head scratching. Red leads, black cables, blue wires – it was like electrical spaghetti! The best advice we can give is to photograph the back of computers and monitors so that you know where those leads, cables and wires came from and, subsequently, where they need to go when they’re relocated. This also helps with those leads that have been plugged into your computer for years but don’t have a purpose…as we discovered.
Is anyone humpy?
We weren’t so much angry and hungry – hangry, as the kids say; just a little grumpy and hungry – humpy. Hot, stodgy pizza helped during a welcome break from the carnage of moving, allowing us to regroup and plan our next manoeuvre.
Where is the kettle?
The moving experts offer great advice and take it from us they’re right, if you have the most important box labelled then you’ll be fine; Kitchen – Tea, coffee, sugar, cups, plates, kettle (however many you may have!), toaster, microwave, knives, forks etc. All will be well if these are to hand.
Anyone for a game of pool?
Whereas Solinear’s factory was nearby but still a separate entity, the factory and office and have now been amalgamated into one huge unit which brings about new challenges – it’s a bit like moving in with your messier, noisier partner and sharing kitchen facilities with them including microwave, toaster, fridge and sink. How long before we need to introduce a kitchen rota?! The factory does come with its own pool table though, which is proving very tempting. Solinear is now also equipped with its own water cooler so we can have those water cooler conversations like they do in the films.
Where did November go?!
November seemed to turn to December quicker than the Solinear team could demolish a packet of biscuits. Like Father Christmas’s elves we’re incredibly busy fulfilling orders before Christmas (we close on the 20th December) and, alongside all the exertion and excitement of moving to a new office, Solinear’s 15th birthday celebrations – which were scheduled for November – have been pushed aside/delayed. However, we’re looking forward to celebrating many, many future Solinear birthdays here.
